Actor Bruce Locke
Shang Tsung on
Mortal Kombat Conquest.
Actor Bruce Locke plays the evil sorcerer, Shang Tsung on
the hit tv series Mortal Kombat Conquest. He joins
us this evening here at mortalkombat.com to chat with the
fans.

arts do you study?
Bruce Locke: None right now, but I studied Wing Chun,
a little bit Choi Lei Foot (sp?), and also Shao Lin. I studied
Kempo for Robocop 3.

martial arts?
Bruce Locke: My brother taught Wing Chun, so I studied
on and off since I was a kid.

Lin? I don't think there's enough kung fu portrayed in MK, which
is supposed to revolve around a Shao Lin tournament.
Bruce Locke: I studied through one of the Tongs and also
Al Leong taught me for Robocop 3. Al is very famous in the martial
arts.

Bruce Locke: Cary and I did a pilot about 12 years ago
for CBS. I wanted to play the bad cop, then I met Cary, and
said "You play the bad cop".

Bruce Locke: It was a pleasure working with everyone,
a great time. Especially the beautiful women Larry brought in.

Bruce Locke: Chris was the first actor I met in Florida.
We went out for sushi and drank a lot of beer. He's a great
guy.

Bruce Locke: If there's a movie, and I'm asked...I'm
there.

Bruce Locke: Everyone was great!

Bruce Locke: I enjoyed the episode "The Master" immensely.

Bruce Locke: Once in a while a punch gets out of hand,
but everyone is quick to apologize.

Bruce Locke: Jeff is my golf buddy. We shared many many
laughs on the golf course.

Bruce Locke: Keep watching, keep writing, we do this
for you guys.

that you've been in?
Bruce Locke: I enjoyed making Robocop 3 the most, even
though that probably wasn't the best.

Bruce Locke: I don't know yet, I sure hope so.

the cast of MKC?
Bruce Locke: Actually, Tracy Douglas and her husband
and myself and my girlfriend went to Vegas a couple weeks ago
to pick up some cash, and we all won money.

Bruce Locke: No. I have 2 computers, but I'm not online,
so if you hear anything from my character or myself, it's not
me.

Bruce Locke: General Hospital.

martial artist in the Mortal Kombat Conquest cast? In your opinion?
Bruce Locke: If I answer that, the second most skilled
would kill me :)

Bruce Locke: It's all done by the effects people at TDRL.

in a fight you might get hurt or something?
Bruce Locke: It's all carefully choreographed. Believe
me, the producers are more worried about us than we are.

a fight scene over because you felt you punches and kick were
not that good?
Bruce Locke: Yes, because the style of fighting was chosen
for my character before I took on the show, and I would like
to have taken him in a different direction. eg: yeah, I want
more takes.

your character do you ware a wig or is your hair really that
long?
Bruce Locke: At first I wore hair extensions, but now
my hair is long.

Bruce Locke: I do as much as they let me, but no producer
ever likes an actor to do flips.

embarrasing moment while working on Mortal Kombat?
Bruce Locke: I was leaning in to kiss Tracy Douglas and
the prop man put a whoopee cushion under her pillow.

Bruce Locke: No, but I was nationally ranked in tennis.

Bruce Locke: We're still in hiatus.

sequence in MKC?
Bruce Locke: I only liked pieces of fights, because,
as I said, they picked Wu-Shu for my character and I'm a big
fan of Bruce Lee.

Bruce Locke: On and off since I was a kid, and I'm 6'2".

Bruce Locke: Jeff Meek and I have a similar resume. Although
we never worked on the same shows at the same time.

Bruce Locke: Taking people's souls was one of my great
pleasures in Florida

Bruce Locke: Of course I liked the first movie better.
I read for Shang Tsung and Liu Kang and I didn't get either
of them.

Bruce Locke: I just read for a Jet Li movie today, so

Bruce Locke: No I didnt.

Bruce Locke: Hopefully it's Kung Lao because the arch
villian need to have the biggest rivalry or the show dies.

Bruce Locke: I work out between 3 and 5 days a week.

to the games as far as look.

Bruce Locke: It's kind of awkward because Tracy and I
and her husband are such good friends, but she's sweet and wonderful.

Bruce Locke: Talk to Daniel Bernhardt, he's the star
of the action movies.

Bruce Locke: I love to joke around on the set, it relieves
a lot of tension.

right? Well....why don't you just transform everytime that you
leave the cobalt mines or go out somewhere?
Bruce Locke: They wouldn't need me to act as Shang Tsung
if I was always other people.

Bruce Locke: Get involved in community theatre and your
local commercial agents.

Bruce Locke: That was the real length of my hair at the
time.

Bruce Locke: No, but I would have liked to have done

Bruce Locke: My girlfriend is a first grade teacher,
and she says that I remind her of a lot of her students.

Bruce Locke: No they're pranksters, with a lot of mischief
in their eyes.

I think I saw you there once.
Bruce Locke: Yes I was. Good eye.

I said earlier about featuring more Kung Fu in a show/movie/game
series based on a Shaolin tournament?
Bruce Locke: Yes, I am a big fan of the Shao Lin style,
I would have liked to have copied a Bruce Lee fight as an homage
to him, shot for shot.
Bruce Locke: I've got to get going. I'm very pleased
that you guys showed up. I'll be back. I don't know when, but
I'll be back, as soon as my parole officer gives me clearance!
